Special Feature: Five Quick Questions with Melanie Moreland
If you’re like us, then the “grumpy one is soft for the sunshine one” trope gets your motor running—pun 100% intended. It’s because of that* that Melanie Moreland‘s newest release, Revved to the Maxx, caught our attention. Featuring a curmudgeonly hero, a sweet and sassy heroine, and an online-ad mix-up, it sounded like heaven. And after reading the Bites that she’s shared on Book+Main Bites, it’s confirmed: we NEED this book!
In celebration of Revved to the Maxx‘s release, we sent Melanie five quick questions we were dying to know the answers to, and she didn’t let us down. Yes, she might’ve been a little tricky on that last one (you’ll see when you get there), but she also gave us the good stuff, so all is forgiven. Now, read on for more . . . including a look at Chapter One!
*and the fact we are already BIG fans of Melanie’s!
ABOUT REVVED TO THE MAXX
Maxx Reynolds needs help.
His shop, house, and life are all in a state of disarray.
In desperation, he turns to the internet to hire a new employee, thinking it will make his life easier.
What he expects is a fellow named Charly.
What he gets is a quirky, sassy, red-head named Charlynn who runs circles around him.
And she’s all woman.
He can’t stand her.
He can’t keep his hands off her either.
OUR FIVE QUESTIONS
1. Have you ever answered an online ad?
Only for Facebook Marketplace. LOL. I buy waaay too much stuff on there. My PA, Karen, gives me shit all the time.
2. Have you ever ridden/do you ride a motorcycle? If so, what type?
I have been a passenger on a motorcycle several times, but I have never driven one. Considering how wonky I am on a regular bicycle, I can only imagine the disaster seating my butt on a powerful engine with two wheels would be. I have been on a few Harleys, a Yamaha and a Ducati. I was way younger then.
3. Are you more like Charly or Maxx?
My PA would tell you I am grumpy. (PA over at the side nodding furiously.) Which is a total lie. I’m Canadian – we are all sweet. I am very much like Charly with the organizing, cooking, decorating thing. Always looking after people. And if I am comfortable with you—lots of banter.
4. What’s your favorite quote or scene from the book?
Oh there are so many. I loved these two so much. One of my favorites is the way Charly handled her sleazeball of a super. I LOL’d at times writing it. My favorite Maxx/Charly scene is when Charly pushes Maxx over the edge with her outfit, knowing very well the consequences of her actions and, ah, lack of skirt or underwear. She knows how to push his buttons.
The scene that sums up the two of them and always makes me laugh is after one of their more intimate moments.
“You don’t want sweet and nice?”
“No, I want Maxx. In all your growly, snarly magnificence, glowering at me in the garage and telling me off. I like that.”
“You are a strange girl, Red.”
“Holy moly, buddy, you’re one to talk,” she snorted. “Only you could come out of counselling even grumpier than when you started.”
5. Describe Revved to the Maxx in five words.
A sexy-funny-growly pull-at-your-heartstrings kinda book. (Ha – see what I did there?) Editor’s note: yes, we see what you did. Sneaky hyphenator!
