Keyword Round-Up: Second Chance
Romance is ripe for a good second chance story, you can find them everywhere, in every sub-genre of books. From the idea of young, first love that’s torn apart by life choices after high school to the dreaded, first love brought low by a deceitful secondary character, everyone roots for the main couple when a second chance romance comes to the reading party!
There are some authors that are notoriously good at crafting compelling second chance romance stories. Their back catalogs are filled with fabulous stories that tug at your heartstrings and, oftentimes, raise your blood pressure in anger when young love is done wrong! Colleen Hoover’s It Ends With Us and Hopeless immediately pop into my mind when I think about second chance romances. Kristen Ashley has a ton of second chance romances, but my personal favorites are Fairytale Come Alive and Rock Chick Reckoning.
FAIRYTALE COME ALIVE (Ghosts and Reincarnation Series) tells the story of Prentice and Isabella. Isabella comes from a very wealthy and abusive family, but her time spent in Ireland with her best friend Annie leads her to the love of her life, Prentice. Around him, she is free to be herself and to embrace all of the beauty of life. They fall in love, hard, fast, and forever but her controlling father has other ideas for Isabella, ideas they don’t include a poor young man from what he considers the wrong side of the tracks. Twenty years later, with many life experiences, both good and bad under the bridge, they reunite for Annie’s wedding and the second chance gets an assist by Isabella’s ghosty, and most unexpected fairy godmother.
ROCK CHICK RECKONING (Rock Chick Series) is my very favorite of all of the Rock Chick books. This is a hill I will die on. I love Stella, she is a genuine rock chick, the lead singer of a rock and roll band that fits the rock chick aesthetic to a “t”! And Mace, or Lordy be, Lordy be, broody, impossibly tall, broken Mace is catnip for my soul. That man is so rightfully broken by life, I want to scoop him up and hold him to my bosom. Of course, I look past the fact that Mace and Stella need a second chance because Mace is so freaking stubborn, he basically self-sabotaged their relationship. I’m telling you, the man is b r o k e n and his backstory will shatter your heart. Ashley’s trademark fast paced suspense and intense shootouts and explosions, coupled with incredible sexy times make for a fabulous read. Add in a playlist of tunes to die for and a beautiful second chance and stick a fork in me, I’m all in!

SECOND CHANCE INK by Carrie Ann Ryan
Tattoo artist Brandon never thought he’d see her again. He’d trained himself never to think of her or what they’d had together. It was the only way he’d been able to survive but now she’s standing right in front of him and he can hardly breathe.
Lauren hadn’t known he’d be part of her plans until it was too late. She’d thought he was gone from her life and memories forever. Now he’s in her orbit once more and she’ll have to fight to remember the girl she once was and the woman she’s become.
THE LEGEND by Dylan Allen
Remington Wilde had heartbreak written all over him.
He was the most beautiful boy I’d ever seen.
When I looked into his midnight eyes,
I saw a happy ending I’d never dared to dream of.
I was seventeen the first time he asked for my heart,
I didn’t hesitate to hand it over.
In exchange, he gave me the best summer of my life.
He was my first everything.
Falling in love felt written in the stars…
But our legend, it turns out, was all a lie.
And when our story ended, all I had was a broken heart.
Now, he wants a second chance.
But this time, I’ve got more to lose than just my heart.
When the lies that pulled us apart, threaten again,
it will take more than sweet words from his sinful mouth to convince me.
He says the love of a lifetime deserves a million chances,
But am I strong enough to fall again?
THE LAST SECOND CHANCE by Lucy Score
What would it take to get one last chance?
Joey Greer is done having her heart broken. Eight years ago, after a horrific car accident, Jackson Pierce—her high school sweetheart—abandoned her. Abandoned his family. Abandoned the town they’d both grown up in, and fled to Hollywood. He never looked back, and she never forgot him.
Or forgave him.
Now he’s back, pretending like the past doesn’t exist, wanting another chance. And even though she still feels the undeniable connection between them, the fiery attraction that burns her up from the inside out, Joey’s determined to keep him at a safe distance.
Jackson Pierce can’t tell Joey the truth about the night when he left her in the hospital. It would ruin more than just their relationship, and he can’t do that to her.
The entire town of Blue Moon knows that Jax and Joey are meant for each other, but Joey isn’t interested in giving him a second chance. All he can do is give her flowers. And picnic lunches. And a dog.
Oh, and handcuff himself to her for charity.
Will this second chance be the last one Jax needs to win back Joey’s heart, or is the past too much to forgive?
WHEN WE TOUCH by Tia Louise
Emberly Warren was spicy-sweet seduction.
My biggest temptation.
My biggest regret.
I thought she’d always be waiting for me.
I was wrong.
Now I’m back in Oceanside searching for peace, hoping to escape what my life has become.
She isn’t supposed to be here…
Dark hair blowing in the ocean breeze,
Luscious curves barely hidden by thin cotton.
I didn’t come back for her.
But when we touch, I know I’ll do whatever it takes to make her mine.
